UNITED STATES:1904, gilt bronze medal, H&K-300, NGC graded MS67, "So-Called Dollar", Louisiana Purchase Exposition, Official Souvenir Medal, conjoined busts of Napoleon and Jefferson left, LOUISIANA PURCHASE EXPOSITION / OFFICIAL SOUVENIR around // high-relief map of USA, Louisiana Purchase outlined, five-pointed star for the City of St. Louis with rays projecting outward, LOUISIANA TERRITORY / 1803 / 1,000,000 SQUARE MILES / $15,000,000. above, ST. LOUIS 1904 below, R. Official Souvenir medals were struck at the United States Mint Exhibit on the fair grounds. They were designed by George Morgan and his initial M appears at the base of Jefferson's shoulder. Morgan was later the Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint, and is most famous for designing the Morgan dollar. A lesser example sold in Heritage Tokens & Medals Signature Auction 1235, Lot 98735 in MS-66 for $822.
