JHALAWAR: AR broad nazarana rupee (13.98g), Jhalawar, VS1915 year 3 (1860/61), Y-6b, in the name of Queen Victoria (!), mount removed (as almost always for this rare type), struck to a heavier standard comparable to Jahangir's 17th century sawai rupee, VF, RRR, ex. Eck Prud'homme Collection, ex Stephen Album Auction 9, Lot 950, sold for $950. The regnal years do not refer to the ruler or to Queen Victoria, but to the transfer from the coins citing Bahadur II to Victoria in VS1915 (1858/59), which became the frozen Vikrama date on all subsequent Jhalawar coinage. Year 3 (1860/61) falls within the reign of Prithvi Singh (1845-1875). This special type was probably produced solely for attachment or suspension.
