SIKH EMPIRE: AR rupee (9.23g), Peshawar, VS1891//1891, KM-98.1, Herrli-13.01.04, first type, without the border of dots around the pipal leaf, a few nicks, nice overall, VF, RR. The weight of this piece corresponds to the contemporary Afghan rupee of about 9.2-9.4 grams, the weight of the last Barakzay rupees of Peshawar, struck anonymously by Sultan Muhammad Tala'i AH1247-1249. It is likely that the border of dots added later in VS1891 (began about 15 April 1834, near the end of AH1249) represent a reduction of the Peshawar rupee weight to about 8.4-8.5 grams. In order to confirm this theory, the weight of more Peshawar VS1891 rupees without the border of dots is needed.
Estimate: 200-250 USD
