MANCHUKUO: Japanese Occupation, 1932-1945, AV tael (1932), L&M-1068, Kann-1595var, Chinese fun ("blessing") on obverse, 1000 above and 24 K below on reverse (to indicate fineness), NGC graded MS60, RR. According to Kann, "Seemingly these Manchurian gold taels were not in general circulation, but most of them were held by the Bank of Manchukuo, a Japanese controlled institution figuring as the official government bank in Manchuria." The L&M number 1067 on the slab in incorrect - it is clearly 1068, the rarer of the two varieties.
