ABBASID: al-Mu'tamid, 870-892, AR dirham (6.02g), uncertain mint, AH265, A-240.5var, contemporary imitation, muling an obverse citing al-Muwaffaq (AH262-273, heir of al-Mu'tamid) with a reverse citing al-Mu'tazz (AH251-255), about 15% flat, remarkably heavy, strong VF, RR. Probably struck somewhere in the Caucasus, during extensive political unrest in Armenia and Azerbaijan. The mint name resembles "m.s.t.f.r." (ending in "'ayn" or "ghayn"), but has never been identified.
