ABBASID: al-Mu'tamid, 870-892, AR dirham (3.14g), uncertain mint, AH265, A-240.5var, contemporary imitation, muling an obverse citing al-Muwaffaq (AH262-273, heir of al-Mu'tamid) with a reverse citing al-Mu'tazz (AH251-255), about 40% flat, mint name off flan, VF, RR. Probably struck somewhere in the Caucasus, during extensive political unrest in Armenia and Azerbaijan. The mint name resembles "m.s.t.f.r." (ending in "'ayn" or "ghayn"), but has never been identified.
