JAPAN: Meiji, 1868-1912, AE medal (143.7g), year 30 (1897), as Zeno-192695, 67mm, bronze medal for the Kobe Fisheries Expo, two figures gazing down at fish in water, inscription "Aquatic Products Exhibition, Kobe" above, Meiji Era date below // Chrysanthemum Seal (Imperial Seal of Japan) at center, inscription "2557th year of Jimmu Emperor Era" around in small characters, two large characters on either side read "for meritorious service (excellent achievements)", some small black adhesions, likely cleaned at one time, but overall very nice for an early medal with semi-prooflike reflectivity in the fields, EF to AU. The Kobe Fisheries Expo was held in 1897 at the recently opened Wakakuen Aquarium in Hyogo Ward, Kobe City, Japan. The aquarium was designed by Professor Iijima Isao, Professor of Zoology at Tokyo University. Kobe's advanced shipbuilding technology was used to build the aquarium.

Estimate: 60-80 USD
