THRACE, Mesambria. Circa 225-175 BC. AR Tetradrachm (32mm, 16.43 g, 12h). In the name and types of Alexander III of Macedon. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; Corinthian helmet in left field, Λ-A below throne. Karayotov I 70 (O23/R79); Callataÿ Group 1, dies D1/R1; Price 1027; HGC 3, 1567. VF, lightly toned, slightly worn dies, minor die shift on obverse. Very rare, five noted by Karayotov (including the two in Pella), two (correctly attributed) in CoinArchives.
