CYPRUS, Soloi. Pasikrates (Stasikrates). Circa 330s-310s BC. AR Tetradrachm (26.5mm, 16.84 g, 7h). In the name and types of Alexander III of Macedon. Soli (Cyprus) mint. Struck circa 325/3-319/8 BC. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; to inner left, prow right; below throne, Z on strut. Zapiti & Michaelidou –; Troxell, Alexanders, obv. die 13, pl. 72, 28; Price 3091. VF, toned, minor double strike on reverse. Very rare, two in Pella (see below), none in CoinArchives (all listed as 3091 are actually 3098), none in ANS Photofile.

From the Colin E. Pitchfork Collection, purchased from Freeman & Sear, December 1997.

Price 3091 (with Greek zeta below the throne) and 3098 (with Greek iota below the throne) are very commonly confused with one another. In fact, even Price's illustration of 3091 is actually an illustration of 3098 (see Hersh, Additions 136). In Pella, there are five coins illustrated under 3091, but only one example, ANS 1944.100.33814, is correct. All the rest are of Price 3098. At the same time, Pella illustrates six coins under 3098, but one is actually an example of 3091 (BM 2002,0101.1016). Coins of Price 3091 are quite rare compared to the rather common 3098.
