INDIA, Kushan Empire. Kanishka I. Circa AD 127-151. Æ Tetradrachm (25mm, 15.87 g, 12h). Main mint in Kapisha (Begram?). Late phase. Kanishka standing left, sacrificing over altar and holding standard / Seated Maitreya Buddha: Buddha seated cross-legged facing on stool, hand raised in gesture of abhayamudrā and holding kamanḍalu/kuṇḍikā (water pot); tamgha to inner left. Cribb, Buddha 91-3 (dies x/23); MK 792; ANS Kushan 617; Donum Burns –. Fine, brown surfaces, hint of tooling on obverse. Very rare and popular type.
