Napoleon I. Consulate (1799-1804). Conquest of Upper Egypt silver Medal L'An VII (1799) MS62 NGC, Lecompte-10, Julius-694, by Galle. 35mm. A gorgeous ever-popular type, its obverse with the head of Isis left, its reverse depicting a crocodile chained to a palm tree. Often attributed to being a copy of the Aegypt Capta denarius of Augustus, the cataloger notes a far more pronounced similarity with his Nemausus dupondii. Stunningly accented through areas of darker tone in the recesses, the overall visual appeal of this medal is enormous and is truly a premium offering.
