Napoleon I. First Empire (1804-14). Alliance with Saxony silver Medal 1806 MS62 NGC, Bramsen-551, Julius-1623, by Andrieu. 40mm. Yet another piece of immaculate evidence to Andrieu's genius, this medal shows four portraits, that of Napoleon I, Charlemagne, Vitikind and Frederic Augustus and all are masterpieces of neo-Classical art. Andrieu certainly was born into the wrong era for his artistic merits! A silky argent medal and a bright white save for some bold areas of golden tone, intensely appealing and a simply wonderful piece to observe and, one imagines, to own.
