Napoleon I. First Empire (1804-14). Victory at Eylau silvered bronze Medal 1807 MS62 NGC, Bramsen-628, Julius-1727, by J. P. Droz and Brenet. 40mm. Considered one of the most mysterious and inconclusive battles of the Napoleonic conflict, Eylau was a fierce engagement fought between France and Russia in 1807 with no clear winner. Nonetheless, Napoleon saw to it that medals commemorating France's victory were produced, such as this premium example. With near-complete silvering save for the usual spots of discolored tone, this visually enticing medal captures Napoleon's arrogance in battle and denial of defeat better than most in the Napoleonic series. Historically and numismatically important thus, and one for the specialist collector.
