RIC-72. "IMP ALEXANDER P F AVG" Laureate head of Alexander facing right; Reverse: "S P Q R OPTIMO PRINCIPI" Legionary eagle (Aquila) between two vexilla surmounted by hand (on left) and wreath (on right). Domitius Alexander led a short rebellion against Maxentius in A.D. 308, holding North Africa and Sardinia. VERY RARE. Little is known about this usurper, likely due to his brief tenure. Somewhat off-center, but with a bold portrait and most of his name clear. Nice glossy brown surfaces, NGC AU, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 4/5.
