THRACE, Mesambria. Circa 100-72/1 BC. AR Tetradrachm (33mm, 15.98 g, 12h). In the name and types of Alexander III of Macedon. Ompha–, magistrate. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; in left field, OMΦA above crested Corinthian helmet right; MEΣAMBPI in exergue. Karayotov I 324 (O99/R320); Callataÿ Group 4, dies D2/R2; Price 1124; HGC 3, 1570. EF, toned, small flan flaw on reverse. Very rare, three noted by Karayotov and Callataÿ (including the one in Pella), three in CoinArchives (including the present piece).
