ASIA MINOR, Uncertain southern mint. Circa 320-280 BC. AR Tetradrachm (27.5mm, 16.85 g, 6h). In the name and types of Alexander III. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; rose-on-stem and monogram in left field. Price 3073. Good Fine, struck with worn obverse die. Very rare, five in Pella, three in CoinArchives, two others noted by Price.

From the Colin E. Pitchfork Collection, purchased from Classical Numismatic Group, December 1997.

Price placed this issue at an uncertain mint in southern Asia Minor, an area that was continually contested between the various successor kingdoms, so this could be an issue struck under the Antigonids, Sekeukids, or Ptolemies, depending on the particular mint and date of issue, neither of which are currently known.
