ASIA MINOR, Uncertain southern mint. Circa 320-280 BC. AR Tetradrachm (26.5mm, 16.96 g, 1h). In the name and types of Alexander III. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; monogram in left field. Unpublished. VF for type, lightly toned. Extremely rare.

From the Colin E. Pitchfork Collection, purchased from Freeman & Sear, December 1997.

Stylistically, this coin is most similar to those issues that Price placed under Uncertain Southern Asia Minor, however, there are also scattered issues of the Levant and east that have some similar elements. During the period this coin was likely struck, circa 320-280 BC, these areas were continually contested between the various successor kingdoms, so this could be an issue struck under the Antigonids, Sekeukids, or Ptolemies, depending on the particular mint and date of issue, neither of which are currently known.
