ANGLO-SAXON, Kings of All England. Edward the Confessor. 1042-1066. AR Penny (18.5mm, 1.10 g, 9h). Trefoil Quadrilateral type (BMC iii var.; Hild. Ca). Wincaestre (Winchester) mint; Ladmer, moneyer. Struck 1046-1048. Diademed and draped bust left; spear-tipped scepter before / + LΛDMÆR ON PINC, quadrilateral, with pellet in center and trefoils at angles, over voided short cross. Harvey 1545 (dies A/a); Freeman 183; North 817 ("rarely with...spear terminal"); SCBC 1174. VF, deeply toned, slightly wavy. Very rare.
