Although Muhammad Tila'I was the brother of Dost Muhammad, the Barakzai ruler at Kabul, he was appointed to his position at Peshawar by the Sikh Maharaja, Ranjit Singh, as a feudatory. His coins can, therefore, be included both in a Barakzai collection and a Sikh collection, though Herrli, in his book The Coins of the Sikhs does not include them in his listing.
