The De Vergulde Draeke sank off the coast of Western Australia, on 28 April, 1656, close to the present-day town of Lancelin. The wreck was discovered 301 years later in 1957, by Alan Robinson. The coins come in the original (somewhat damaged) explanatory folder in which they were marketed, together with the Western Australian Museum receipt.
