Charles Barry Jr. was the eldest son of the more famous architect, Sir Charles Barry. He was elected a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London in 1876 (Council member 1878). A Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects, he was President from 1876-1879 and was awarded the Institute's Royal Medal in gold in 1877. He succeeded his father as architect and surveyor to Dulwich College, designing many buildings around Dulwich, including the New College (1866–70).
