Orders, Medals and Decorations, Viceroy Commissioned Officers, British War Medal 1914-1920, awarded to Jemadar Asghar Ali Khan of the 32nd Lancers who was one of the first British Soldiers to enter Baghdad, (Jemdr Asghar Ali Khan. 32 Lcrs), heavily toned, fine, official correction to last two letters of regiment
Jemadar Asghar Ali Khan entered service on 1/5/1901 and was commissioned Jemadar on 1/7/1916. This regiment served in Mesopotamia during WWI. The 1921 Indian Army List confirms that he served in these operations. A Sowar of the regiment with an identical name was awarded the IDSM in 1917. The 32nd Lancers entered Mesopotamia in late 1916 and was the first British unit to enter Baghdad.
