Islamic coins, Umayyad, temp. 'Abd al-Malik b. Marwan (65-86h), dirham, al-Taymara 80h, wt. 2.75gms. (Klat -, unrecorded), good very fine, extremely rare
Up until the discovery of this dirham the mint of al-Taymara was only known for coinage beginning in the year 90h of the Hijra. All earlier pieces were given the mint name Shaqq al-Taymara. The location of these two coexisting mints is somewhat of a mystery. Later references suggest that al-Taymara was in or close to the city of Isfahan, and the meaning of the word Shaqq (or 'Division') may apply to a distinct section of al-Taymara.
