Islamic coins, Abbasid imitation, al-Mu'izz/al-Muwaffaq, dirham, Simurg? 265h?, wt. 3.11gms, about very fine, very rare
This is an enigmatic coin. At first glance it appears to be a product of a silver mining mint in the Panjhir region of Afghanistan, but it mismatches a coin of al-Mu'izz found on the reverse with the name al-Muwaffaq on the obverse. The mint, Simurg, is otherwise unknown and the date is implausible. As such it suggests that the coin is a contemporary imitation by an unknown hand.
