Mysia, Kyzikos Æ28. 2nd-1st century BC. Laureate head of Apollo right; c/m: eagle with wings spread standing right / KΥZI-KHNΩN to either side of tripod, with branch above and long torch below; monograms to outer left and right. SNG France 504; Von Fritze 39 and pl. II, 23. 6.53g, 28mm, 11h.

Good Very Fine. Edges chipped, pierced. Some flatness to rev. from c/m.

Interestingly, this is the third example of the type to be seen with the eagle in incuse circle countermark, a very similar piece coming to light in the H.D. Rauch Summer 2009 Auction (17/09/2009, lot 215), with a second seen in Savoca 12 (22/01/2017, lot 190) where the countermark was struck just behind the neck of the head of Kore Soteira on the obv.
