Moesia Inferior, Marcianopolis. Macrinus and Diadumenian. A.D. 217-218. AE 28 pentassarion (28.21 mm, 12.23 g, 1 h). Pontianus, consular legate. AVT K OΠEΛ CEV MAKPEINOC K M OΠE ANTΩNEINO, laureate bust of Macrinus right, vis-a-vis with bare head of Diadumenian, left / VΠ ΠΟΝΤΙΑΝΟV Μ[(ΑΡ)-Κ]ΙΑΝΟΠΟΛΙΤΩΝ, naked Apollo standing facing, head right, hand atop head (or drawing arrow from quiver?) and holding bow; to right, serpent-entwined stump; E in left field. Cf. H&J, Markianopolis 6.24.7.13 ; Cf Varbanov 1147; Cf SNG Evelpidis 815. Good VF / VF, toned brass atop devices varying to deep green patina in recesses, small, open rim-split.
