China Banque de l'Indo-Chine 10 Piastres = $10 15.1.1902 Pick S440B. Though the Banque de l'Indo-Chine was a prolific issuer in Asia, it was largely limited to French interests in Southeast Asia. In Shanghai, the French bank could not compete with the capital base of British merchant banks such as the HSBC. Because of this, notes were not as well recognized, and as a result the issuance was small. Though the bank continued to operate in Shanghai until 1955, its note issuances ceased in the early Republic era. Due to the good standing of the bank, most notes were redeemed, leaving any examples issued for any Chinese cities rare today. This example retains the excellent red color and bold stamp signature of the cashier. PCGS Gold Shield Grading Very Good 8 Details, major repair, peeled. HID08701242017
