Ancients
MACEDONIAN KINGDOM. Alexander III the Great (336-323 BC). AV stater (18mm, 8.59 gm, 2h). NGC MS 5/5 - 2/5, scuffs. Late lifetime or early posthumous issue of 'Amphipolis', ca. 325-319 BC. Head of Athena right, wearing crested Corinthian helmet pushed back on head, the bowl decorated with coiled serpent / AΛEΞANΔPOY, Nike standing left, wreath in outstretched right hand, stylis cradled on left arm; cantharus in left field. Price 168. The nearly perfect centering showcases the highly artistic reverse on this coin.

There appears to be a faint Λ signature or control mark on the obverse behind the neck, however no such examples are discussed in Price. It is likely a die break or similar mark as there was another example from this pair of dies sold by Classical Numismatic Group, Auction 88 (14 September 2011), lot 127, which also displays the same feature.
