Annam
Tu Duc 7 Tien ND (1848-83) AU Detail (Holed) PCGS, KM468, Sch-347C. An extremely rare and highly sought-after denomination, this sharp, lightly golden displays some light die cracks, but comparatively little wear, likely owing largely to its role as a presentation or prestige piece. While this example does exhibit two small holes (one at 12 o'clock and one at 6 o'clock), these post-mint modifications should be seen as enhancements attesting to its historic use amongst the Annamese nobility rather that as impairments, as the arrangement and number of holes suggests the coin was intended to be sown onto a nobleman's best garments. Additionally bearing classical symbols of twin dragons suspended amongst clouds and a fireball, this offering is sure to impress the present bidder's audience as much as it was the nobleman's at court when it was first presented and punctured.
