Taiwan. "Old Man" Dollar ND (1838-50) VF Details (Chopmarked) NGC, issued by Chang Wen in the town of Chiayi, Taiwan, KM-C25-3, L&M-317, Kann-1h. Obv. God of Longevity. Rev. Sacrificial vase. Well struck for the issue, with chop marks on both sides. The planchet is somewhat uneven and flan flaws are noted on the obverse and reverse. Struck in order to alleviate the silver coinage shortage in the mid-19th century, this type was set roughly to the standard of the Spanish 8 Reales. Rare, and quite popular.
