Kweilin Mint copper Medal Year 29 (1940) MS64 Brown PCGS, KM-X825, CCC-725. Struck to commemorate the second Anniversary of the Central Mint branch in Kweilin. Obv. Facing portrait of Chiang Kai-shek in military dress. Rev. Emblem of the Kuomintang (Nationalist Party of China). Boldly struck, with high relief. The color is an even chocolate-brown, with iridescent surfaces and only minor marks. Rare.
The Kuomintang was founded in mainland China by Song Jiaoren and Sun Yat-sen in 1911. Sun-Yat-sen was the provisional president of this party but he later ceded the Presidency to Yuan Shih-kai and the party leadership passed later to Chiang Kai-shek. The KMT was the ruling party in China until 1949 when it retreated to Taiwan, where it has been a major political force.
