French Colony copper Specimen Pattern Sapeque 1870 MS63 Red and Brown NGC, KM-Unl, Lec-1. A rare pattern by D. Ulhorn thought to exist in numbers below 20 and presumed to have been created for an exhibition, this is the scarcer variety of the two die types, with a die crack running through the C in ECHANTILLON. An attractive rarity in a respectable certification, and comparable to one similarly graded offered in our Hong Kong sale June 2017, where it realized $3,200 hammer.
