Straits Settlements
Edward VII Proof Specimen 20 Cents 1902 PR66 NGC, KM22. An extreme rarity of the Straits Settlements and wider British Colonial series, this elite Gem is the sole example certified by NGC or PCGS, and the first to have been offered at auction in many years. Although other Proofs are known for this Southeast Asian issue, 1902 is an extremely unusual year to see in any shape or form and we are proud to be able to present this coin, not only one of the few examples known to exist, but also in an exceptional state of preservation with sublime toning. The centers are a luxurious weave of argent-grey and steel-blue flowing over crisply executed devices, expanding outwards into a ring of pale gold, then red, finally terminating in a deep cobalt at the peripheries. This superb specimen demonstrates the appeal achievable when a near-unique piece is preserved and toned in such a way as to combine intense rarity and intense beauty. Likely a once-in-a-generation offering, and simply not to be missed.
