KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III 'the Great', 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Subaeratus, 32 mm, 16.61 g, 1 h), irregular mint, imitating Phaselis, CY 11 = 208/7, but circa 201/0-195/4. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. AΛEΞANΔPOY Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; to left, IA above Φ. Cf. Price 2849 (for prototype). A very well made contemporary forgery of a Phaselis mint issue from 208/7 BC. Well struck and clear with its silver plating intact. Minor breaks in plating, otherwise, extremely fine.
