KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III 'the Great', 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 27 mm, 17.18 g, 11 h), Babylon, struck under Philip III by Archon, Dokimos, or Seleukos I, circa 323-317. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ - AΛEΞANΔPOY Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; to left, facing radiate head of Helios; below throne, KY. Price 3697. Rare, this issue is much more common for Philip III. The obverse struck slightly off center, otherwise, about extremely fine.
