KINGS OF LYDIA. Alyattes II, circa 610-560 BC. Trite (Electrum, 12 mm, 4.64 g), Sardes. Head of a roaring lion to left with sun and rays on its forehead; to left, 'walwel' (in Lydian). Rev. Two incuse squares, one larger than the other. Weidauer Group XVII, 93-4 and 96. Struck from the usual worn dies and with some scrapes, otherwise, about very fine.
