Jenkins, Coinages p. 92; CNS 1; Rizzo pl. LX, 13; Basel 396; BMC 1; Laffaille 198; Virzi 1344; HGC 2, 1100; Buceti 1. 5.01g, 18mm, 10h.

Very Fine. Very Rare.

From the collection of a Scientist.

This very rare issue, of which Jenkins was only able to cite three extant examples, bears a distinct similarity and refinement of style with the celebrated 'Maestro della foglia' Apollo-head issues of Katane (cf. SNG ANS 1254-6). This had led Rizzo to speculate, and Jenkins to concur, that the same engraver had been responsible for both issues, this link giving us the only chronological evidence for this issue.
