Dynasts of Lycia, Kherei(?) Fourrée Stater. Uncertain mint (Telmessos?), circa 440-410 BC(?). Head of Athena right, wearing crested Attic helmet / Bearded head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin; Lycian script to right, all within incuse square. For prototypes, cf. SNG von Aulock 4198; Mørkholm/Zahle, Kherei 52. 7.46g, 21mm, 6h.

Good Fine.

From the collection of D.I., Germany, purchased before 1992.

The Athena/Herakles type was common on dynastic issues of circa 440-370 BC, though issues were often anepigraphic and so are difficult to assign to a particular dynast., making the present fourrée example a particularly interesting piece.
