Vespasian Æ Sestertius. Rome, AD 71. IMP VESPASIAN AVG P M TR P P P COS III, laureate head right / ROMA, Roma standing left, holding Victory and spear; S-C across fields. RIC 190; C. 419; BMCRE 560-563. 24.33g, 34mm, 7h.
Very Fine. Beautiful red-brown patina.
Ex Monsieur Note (1910-1982) Collection, France.
This type was simultaneously struck with the IVDAEA CAPTA reverse type also issued in AD 71, as evidenced by the fact that some of the coins showing the ROMA reverse share an obverse die with others bearing Judaea Capta types (Carradice and Buttrey, RIC Volume II, Part 1, p. 73).
