Hiberno-Norse Vikings and the Danelaw Cast AR Ingot. Circa AD 800-1000. Sub-rectangular in plan and ovate in section, and tapering to a rounded point at each end, areas of each side were hammered flat in antiquity and display numerous striations and casting bubbles. Features nine triangular peck marks along the flat underside, but otherwise undecorated. Parallels for such ingots can be found in the Cuerdale Viking silver hoard from Lancashire which includes similar long, narrow examples and was deposited circa 905-910 (J. Graham-Campbell, 2011, The Cuerdale Hoard and related Viking-Age silver and gold from Britain and Ireland in the British Museum, London, pl. 3, 1: 17-18). 83.61g, 98mm long, 14mm wide, 10mm thick.

Condition as seen. Rare found as a complete ingot, often seen as hacksilver.
