Constantine I, 307/310-337. Follis (Bronze, 17 mm, 1.47 g, 6 h), Siscia, 5th officina, 335-337. CONSTANTINVS MAX AVG Diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of Constantine to right. Rev. GLORIA EXERCITVS / E SIS Two soldiers standing facing, each holding spear and looking towards each other; between, labarum with Christogram on banner. RIC 251 (as R5). Well centered and clear with an olive grey patina. Good very fine.
Very rare early depiction of the Christogram, struck during the lifetime of Constantine the Great. It looks like someone in the 5th officina of Siscia was a huge supporter of the new religion.
