Commemorative Series in the name of Roma, 348. Medallion (Bronze, 16 mm, 2.63 g, 6 h), Struck under Constantius II, Rome, 348. RO-MA Helmeted and draped bust of Roma to right. Rev. P R Constantius helmeted and in military dress, standing facing, his head turned to the right, holding spear in his right hand and resting his left on a shield at his side. LRBC 611. RIC VIII 104 (as R4). Very rare, clear, and with a most attractive dark green patina. Good extremely fine.
This attractive little 'medalet' must have been made for festivities held in Rome in 348, commemorating the 1100th anniversary of Rome's foundation; similar to those struck a century earlier by Philip I. Pieces like this would have been tossed to the crowds.
