(x) Anglo-Scandinavian coinage, Penny, 1.2g, 'Quatrefoil' type with name of Cnut, 'Olthus' (mint?), and 'Eolth' (moneyer?), + cnvt rex anglorv, legend starts at 6 o'clock, crowned and draped bust left, in quatrefoil, rev. + eo ldo nol dvs, voided long cross on quatrefoil (same dies as SCBI 15 (Copenhagen) 4233, SCBI 25 (Helsinki) 1064 and 1065, and SCBI 36 (Berlin) 1006), extremely fine.
Provenance:
Purchased from York Coins, April 2011
The imitations at the end of the Copenhagen volume of SCBI are listed with the reverse legends given in full without any interpretation, thus here we have eoldonoldvs. In other volumes of SCBI, including the cumulative index by Veronica Smart, the legend is broken in the obvious way, eold on oldvs. The names are not encountered anywhere else.

Estimate: £500 - £600
