ISLANDS off IONIA, Chios. Circa 270-220 BC. AR Tetradrachm (30.5mm, 16.80 g, 12h). In the name and types of Alexander III of Macedon. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; in left field, sphinx seated right above EY; monogram below throne. Bauslaugh, Posthumous, Series 25, dies 35/70; Price 2356; HGC 6, 1132; SNG Copenhagen Supp. 144 (same dies). VF, lightly toned, slight roughness, a few minor deposits and marks. Very rare, two noted by Bauslaugh (including the one in Pella and the Mektipini piece noted by Price), one in CoinArchives.
