His laureate head right; M ANTONINVS AVG TR P XXV / Victory standing right, placing shield inscribed VIC / GER in two lines on palm tree; IMP VI COS III S C. RIC III 1001. Very Fine; smooth green patina; well centered and well struck; good style; pleasing coin.
David Sear notes that Aurelius, a conscientious ruler and Stoic philosopher, spent much of his later reign campaigning on the Danube frontier, and during these wars he wrote his celebrated "Meditations." This coin celebrates his victory over the German tribes.
