CHINA. 2,000 Yuan, 1992. Lunar Series, Completion of Lunar Cycle. NGC PROOF-68 ULTRA CAMEO.
cf.Fr-B63; KM-437. EXTREMELY RARE kilogram size solid gold coin struck after the completion of the twelve year Lunar Cycle for which coinage had been struck since 1981. Only 20 pieces of this type were struck, and hence it is one of the rarest modern Chinese coins in general. Of the original mintage of 20 this example is stamped as serial #6 + 8 (14) and has the matching certificate of authenticity accompanying it. The original wood display case is included and is in good order with metal clasp and hinges fully intact. The obverse designs from each of the eleven preceding lunar animal issues as well as the 1992 Year of the Monkey design are lovingly recreated on the obverse of this massive piece being slightly overlapped in a ring around a Yin Yang Bagua. The reverse is dominated by a huge depiction of the White Pagoda of Beihai. The frosted devices are all very attractive and complete with no breaks or missing flecks. The hard mirror surfaces are entirely lustrous and provide beautiful contrast with the devices. This example is tied with one other example for second finest certified, with only six examples certified finer (all NGC PROOF-69 ULTRA CAMEO). An incredibly difficult coin to find let alone be offered for sale, the chance to obtain this key piece of modern Chinese numismatics should not be missed. NGC PROOF-68 ULTRA CAMEO.

Estimate: $300000.00- $350000.00
