JAPAN. Kin Kwan "Gold Ring Money", ND (ca. 2000 B.C.-400 A.D.).
31.55 x 21.24 mm; 9.56 gms. Opitz-pg.280; Munro-pg.5. Gilt copper ring. Gildding mostly intact with portions missing showing the copper core. Various forms of ring money were used in Eastern Asia including Japan for at least 2,500 years. Usually made of hollow copper with a thin layer of gold (Kin) or silver (Gin) applied to the outside surfaces. Based on the weight of the current example the core is solid copper. An intriguing piece which is sure to delight the advanced collector of Japanese numismatics or primitive money. VERY FINE.
