THAILAND. Rama V Dusademala Medals, RS 1244 (1882).
3 pieces in lot. Struck in silver, 41 x 46, 32 x 38, and 10 x 12 mm (measurements are for the oval medal alone - excluding the attachment, hangers and ribbon). The two larger medals are cataloged by Barac as B-8 for the large version and B-9 for the middle-size piece. The miniature medal is not cataloged. All three pieces feature a bust of Rama V facing left, with an inscription around and a demi-wreath below. The reverses all with Phra Siam Devadhiraj (the personification of Thailand) holding the shield from the Royal Coat of Arms of the Kingdom of Siam and crowning an elliptical frame (which is sometimes engraved with a name - in this case each frame is blank) with laurels. The edges of the two larger medals have a raised inscription around the circumference. The two larger pieces each also have a gold and red ribbon (the red faded to pink on the B-8 example) and clasp type medal hanger composed of an inscribed and ornamented plaque with crossed swords suspended below. Another ornamented plaque is affixed to the top of the ribbon. The finish of the largest medal is dark grey underlain with mirror-like silver which shines out beautifully in several areas. The middle-sized piece also has evidence of a mirror finish, but the color is more of a mottled blue and orange over the underlying silver. The miniature is in much the same shades. NEARLY MINT STATE.

Estimate: $5000.00- $7000.00
