CHINA. Szechuan-Tibet. Rupee, ND (1939-42). Kangding. PCGS Genuine--Damage, VF Details Secure Holder.
Y-3.3 (for host coin); WS-0766B. Host coin variety large bust with vertical rosette and collar. "5" or "S" countermark to left of bust within square indent. Countermark possibly the Tibetan syllable "Ta". With additional Chinese countermark possibly 十毛 (shí máo) which could indicate a deprecation of value. Countermarks well applied though slightly uneven. The PCGS holder indicates "Damage", but it is the belief of this cataloger that the small punch mark on the reverse in the center of the flower at 6 o'clock was placed there intentionally. This same test punch or privy mark is often found in the same spot on numerous other examples in conjunction with the "5" or "S" countermark such as the other example in this sale, only in a PCGS XF Details with the same indication of "Damage". Clearly this is more than just a coincidence and deserves further in depth research. Well detailed devices with even wear and medium gray toning. Countermark VERY FINE; Host coin PCGS Genuine--Damage, VF Details Secure Holder.

Estimate: $150.00- $250.00
