Recommendation: In the advances east of Amiens on 8th and 9th August 1918 he displayed very great gallantry. In particular, on the 9th August 1918 when the machine gun fire was exceptional, Private Colls worked unceasingly as a stretcher bearer from 4.30 p.m. until severely wounded at about 8 p.m. Casualties were very heavy during this time. He several times attended to men lying wounded in front of our general line; during all his work he displayed absolute disregard for his own safety.
